The demographics – A brutal reality
Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) refers to intracranial bleeding within the subarachnoid space, which lies between the arachnoid and pia mater overlying the brain. The rupture of an intracranial aneurysm is the cause of most cases of spontaneous (nontraumatic) SAH.

SAH*
is the MOST DEVASTATING
TYPE OF STROKE1
Overall incidence of SAH*
9/100 000 person-years2

SAH*
patients
up to 26% will die before arriving at the hospital3
13% of the patients will die in the hospital3

85%
of non traumatic SAH*1
are secondary
to aneurysmal rupture
MOST aSAH**1
- Occurs between 40 and 60 years of age.
- Slightly higher in women (60%).
SURVIVORS OF aSAH**4
- 30% have significant morbidity & need help for daily activities.
- 50% develop cognitive issues & never fully recovery
The prognosis remains severe : half of all patients do not survive.5
